ACL Reconstruction
Restoring knee stability after an ACL tear with modern, minimally invasive arthroscopic technique.
What is ACL reconstruction?
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the primary stabilizing ligaments of the knee, and a common injury among athletes who plant, pivot, or change direction quickly. When the ACL tears, the knee can feel unstable during activity, and in most active patients surgical reconstruction is the most reliable path back to full function.
Dr. Matarazzo uses minimally invasive arthroscopic technique to reconstruct the torn ligament, typically using a graft to rebuild a stable, functional ACL. His approach draws on his fellowship training at Lenox Hill Hospital and his experience treating competitive athletes as a former team physician for the NY Jets and NY Islanders.
For symptoms, diagnosis and when surgery is or is not needed, see ACL tear treatment.
